Travel to Cape May
All aboard our motor coach as we head north to Cape May, New Jersey. By mid-afternoon we arrive at the historic Marquis de Lafayette Hotel welcoming visitors from around the world with a seaside escape. We’ll spend three nights enjoying the sights and sounds of the beautiful New Jersey shore. Enjoy an included dinner this evening. (D)
Day 2 - Wednesday - June 15
Cape May Trolley Tour/ Physick Estate
Our morning tour includes both a visit to the Physick Estate and a Cape May Trolley Tour. The 1879 Physick Estate, Cape May’s famed Victorian house, is a showplace boasting rooms authentically restored to their original grandeur. Then step aboard a quaint trolley for a narrated journey through the Historic District. View the picturesque gingerbread houses and learn about this resort town’s Victorian heritage and maritime history from our local guide. Lunch is included at the Washington Inn, a former plantation home, featuring fine cuisine. A free afternnon and evening for individual interests. (B,L)
Day 3 - Thursday - June 16
Whale Watching Cruise
Enjoy a leisurely morning for browsing and individual interests. Mid afternoon climb aboard the Cape May Whale Watcher for a narrated cruise around Cape May Point and along the beautiful coastline. A free evening follows. (B)
Day 4 - Friday - June 17
Cape May Ferry/ Travel Home
This morning we board the Cape May Ferry experiencing a delightful nautical adventure with a relaxing journey on the Cape May-Lewes Ferry taking us across the Delaware Bay. Enjoy this memorable crossing seeing historic lighthouses, picturesque harbors, ocean-going vessels, seabirds, and perhaps a dolphin. We continue our travel by motor coach back to the Shenandoah Valley. A good time for all! (B)

Day 1 - Wednesday - June 16
Travel to Maryland / Cruise on the Miles River
All aboard! We’re on our way north to St. Michaels on the Chesapeake Bay. This quaint shipbuilding town located on Maryland’s Eastern Shore features handsome churches and Colonial, Federal and Victorian homes. We’ll enjoy a cruise on the Miles River aboard a Patriot Cruises vessel. See historic homes and native wildlife, and watch local watermen harvesting seafood from the waters. Afterwards enjoy dinner at Chesapeake Landing Restaurant, a local favorite of over 34 years. Then continue to Cambridge for a two-night stay. (D)
Day 2 - Thursday - June 17
Hooper Island Touring / Old Salty's Restaurant
A beautiful morning drive takes us over the sweeping arched bridges to Hoopers Island, another hidden gem on the Chesapeake Bay, offering a mix of history and culture. Here, watermen still harvest the bay just as their ancestors did in the 1600’s. Step back in time as we ride through the Blackwater National Wildlife Refuge, home to one of the largest bald eagle populations, on our way to the Blackwater Visitors Center. Soon we arrive at Madhouse Oyster Farm, an aquaculture farm raising oysters from larvae and moving them to sites in the bay. After touring this facility we get to taste their products known for their saltiness and sweetness. Then its time for an included lunch at Old Salty’s Restaurant for an enjoyable true Eastern Shore buffet featuring some mighty good seafood. Later we’ll return to Cambridge for free time and dinner on our own. (B,L)
Day 3 - Friday - June 18
Choptank River Lighthouse / Travel Home
Rise and shine! This morning we’ll visit Choptank River Lighthouse, a majestic, fully operational replica of a historic screw pile lighthouse, standing proudly at the end of Long Wharf Park. Take a self-guided tour inside the lighthouse museum to learn about the brave keepers who navigated these waters. From this point we may enjoy uninhibited panoramic views of the massive Choptank River. Later today we board our coach heading home to the Shenandoah Valley. Fond memories of our summer escape to the Chesapeake Bay linger as we return to our respective areas. (B)
