BACK ROADS OF OHIO’S
AMISH COUNTRY

SEPTEMBER 20-23, 2012

TOUR #12053

4 DAYS / 3 NIGHTS
7 MEALS = 3B, 1L, 3D

It’s autumn in Ohio’s Amish Country!  Come with us and experience this journey to the home of the world’s largest Amish settlement.  America’s “plain people” welcome us to their world filled with handmade quilts, mouth-watering “made from scratch” meals, and horse drawn buggies traveling along back roads.  Visit local farmers markets, stop at a bakery, and sample local cheeses.  On the return we’ll tour the Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton.  Step back in time and discover the simple treasures and wholesome pleasures of life!

Day 1 * Thursday * September 20
This morning we board our motorcoach  for an unforgettable back roads tour through Ohio’s Amish Country.  A beautiful ride is before us as we journey to Berlin, Ohio, where accommodations await for the next three nights at the Berlin Hotel and Suites.  A local guide joins us for a family style feast in an Amish home, followed by a house tour.  (D)

Day 2 * Friday * September 21
Wake up in the heart of Ohio’s Amish Country, home of the largest population of Amish in the world.  The “Plain People” have a fascinating history, and we’ll learn all about it at the Mennonite Information Center where we’ll view an inspirational 265-foot cyclorama mural entitled “Behalt.”    Our adventure continues at Rolling Ridge Ranch Exotic Animal Farm.  Enjoy a wagon ride through the park and feed the animals right from the wagon.  Afterwards visit Holmes County Flea Market where hundreds of vendors display their wares under one roof. After lunch on our own we’ll stop at Shrock Farm Village for antiques, crafts, quilts, and “Tis the Season Year Round Christmas Shop.”  On to the renowned Warther Carvings, Gardens, and Knife Shop where the finest kitchen cutlery in the world is created.  View the priceless ebony and ivory carvings, stroll the Swiss gardens and visit Mrs. Warther’s Button House.  After touring the family home enjoy a sit down candlelight dinner in the Ivory Room surrounded by priceless works of art.  Surely an evening to remember!  (B,D)

Day 3 * Saturday * September 22
Our guide joins us for a back roads tour.  We’ll visit several Amish cottage industries and Pioneer Farm Equipment, where we learn more about an amazing Amish family business known world wide for their horse drawn farm machinery.  Following our tour of the Winesburg Carriage Factory, we’ll feast on a traditional Church Lunch served in a private home.  Next see candy being made (and get a sample!) at Coblentz Chocolates.  We’ll also get to sample  the locally made cheeses at Heini’s Cheese Chalet.  Visit Hershberger Farm Market and Bakery featuring the best  homemade jams, jellies, noodles and more.  This evening we’ll arrive at Inn at Honey Run for our farewell feast and a tour of the Inn.  Enjoy   the grounds and beautiful setting following our delicious meal prepared by one of the areas finest chefs.  (B,L,D)

Day 4 * Sunday * September 23
This morning we depart for Canton and tour the Pro Football Hall of Fame.  The century-old history of professional football is documented with artifacts, films and busts of the inductees.  The Hall also has many hands-on and interactive exhibits.  Afterwards we board our coach for the trip home, bringing with us wonderful memories of Ohio’s Amish Country.  (B)
