Legends, Lights and Lore!

JUNE 6-8, 2012

TOUR #12011

3 DAYS / 2 NIGHTS
3 MEALS = 2CB, 1D

Enjoy the beauty of the sun, sand, sea, lighthouses, seashells, and seafood.  Visit  the Wright Brothers National Memorial, and see The Lost Colony, the story that remains a mystery to this day.  See Bodie Island Lighthouse.   Lodging is in Kill Devil Hills with time to enjoy the sand and surf just outside our oceanfront  hotel.  It’s a great day along North Carolina’s Outer Banks filled with legends, lights and lore...join us for this special time!

Day 1 * Wednesday * June 6
All aboard!  Today’s travel takes us to North Carolina’s Outer Banks, a chain of barrier islands lying between the Atlantic Ocean and the Pamlico Sound.  Arrive mid-afternoon in Kill Devil Hills at the Days Inn Oceanfront.  Spend a free evening enjoying the amenities of our hotel, beachcombing, and relaxing on the beach.

Day 2 * Thursday * June 7
Enjoy breakfast at our hotel before heading out to the Wright Brothers National Memorial.  It was here in 1903 that the Wright Brothers changed the world forever as their powered airplane skimmed over the sands of the Outer Banks.  See the new flight museum  with exhibits from the Centennial Celebration.  Visit nearby Jockey’s Ridge State Park and see the East Coast’s tallest sand dune.  Next visit Bodie Island Lighthouse,  with its black and white horizontal bands.  The most picturesque lighthouse on the Outer Banks, it began operating in 1872.  At Roanoke Island Festival Park  see   a replica of the ship Elizabeth II in which the colonists sailed from England.  Following an included dinner settle back under the stars and enjoy  The Lost Colony, celebrating its 72nd Anniversary.  History unfolds before our eyes on the shores where it all began over 400 years ago.  The colonists vanished, but where did they go?  This 400 year-old mystery remains.  Return to our Inn for a restful night.  (CB,D)

Day 3 * Friday * June 8
Our morning is free to enjoy one last dip in the ocean before heading home.  We’ll bring back fond memories of the legends, lights and lore that make North Carolina’s Outer Banks so unique.  (CB)
