JULY 20-22, 2012

TOUR #12027

3 DAYS / 2 NIGHTS
3 MEALS = 2B, 1D

Leave the cares of life behind and go cruisin down the scenic backroads of Country Music Highway  23! Experience the mountain culture and the roots of country music in Kentucky’s scenic mountains.   These Appalachian hills have produced many country music stars include Loretta Lynn, the Judd’s, Billy Ray Cyrus, Tom T. Hall, Ricky Skaggs, Patty Loveless, Crystal Gayle and more.  The views here remain virtually untouched since the days of Daniel Boone.  Highlights include Loretta Lynn’s Butcher Hollow Home, the Mountain HomePlace, Country Music Highway Museum, and  Mountain Arts Center where  “the locals” perform each week.

Day 1 * Friday * July 20
Welcome aboard!  Sit back and enjoy this summer weekend excursion along Route 23, Kentucky’s Country Music Highway.  Soon we’ll arrive in Paintsville where accommodations await for a two night stay.  Enjoy an included dinner this evening.  (D)

Day 2 * Saturday * July 21
Today we’ll visit the Mountain HomePlace, a living history village depicting the rugged way of life on the Appalachian plateau in the mid-1800's.  Next  visit the mountain birthplace and childhood home of country music’s queen, Loretta Lynn, the “Coal Miner’s Daughter.”  Afterwards stop at Mayo Methodist Church, built by Eastern Kentucky’s first coal baron, John C. C. Mayo, and featuring an organ provided by Andrew Carnegie.  Later we explore the U.S. 23 Country Music Highway Museum, offering fans an opportunity to see displays created to honor many of the country music entertainers who consider U.S. 23 their home. Tonight, we’ll be treated to a sizzling variety of music performed by the up and coming stars of country music at the Mountain Arts Center. (B)

Day 3 * Sunday * July 22
This morning we depart for the New River Gorge Bridge, one of the world’s longest steel-span bridges, rising 876 feet above the river. Enjoy a presentation of the history of the gorge and its people before continuing our journey home.  It’s been a fun experience traveling along Kentucky’s Country Music Highway.  (B)
