It’s off to the races for the Kentucky Derby and a fun-filled “Run for the Roses” event, featuring four days of excitement. Enjoy in-depth sightseeing, daily entertainment and a unique experience leading up to the 138th running of the world’s most exciting two-minute horse race, the Kentucky Derby.
Day 1 * Thursday * May 3
This morning we will travel on our own to Washington Dulles for the flight to Louisville, Kentucky. Upon arrival we transfer to our hotel, the Holiday Inn North. Next we’ll board the steamer Belle of Louisville for a welcome dinner and cruise. With the playing of her calliope, the Belle continues to beckon one and all to join her on a journey back to the time when she carried passengers and goods to ports all along the beautiful Ohio River. (D)
Day 2 * Friday * May 4
Today we’ll visit Bardstown, Kentucky, the Bourbon Capital of the World. Dating to 1780, Bardstown is Kentucky’s second oldest city. Since that time when log, brick and stone homes rose from the wilds of western Virginia, Bardstown has welcomed travelers from around the world. Lunch is included at Old Talbott Tavern before heading to downtown Louisville for a visit to the Louisville Slugger Museum. Louisville Slugger has put prime lumber in the hands of the greatest players of the game since 1884. We’ll also visit Frazier International History Museum which brings history to life everyday through live interpretations by costumed guides, multimedia presentations, educational programming, and hands-on learning. This evening, get ready to be entertained at the Derby Dinner Playhouse where we will enjoy an “all u care to eat” buffet before the main show. (B,L,D)
Day 3 * Saturday * May 5
After breakfast it’s off to the races and Churchill Downs to experience the 138th Kentucky Derby in person! Watch the action from our bleacher seating, for a viewing of this world famous race. We’ll have time for lunch and dinner on our own. After the race, we return to the hotel. (B)
