It’s spring in the South! The Old South comes alive on this tour to Charleston and Savannah brimming over with plantations, antebellum mansions, and the finest gardens. Explore along Charleston’s cobblestone streets aboard a horse drawn carriage. Visit gardens laden with fragrant blossoms of magnolias and hibiscus. Spend a delightful day in Savannah with its moss laden trees, antebellum homes, monuments and museums. Enjoy lunch at Paula Deen’s Restaurant and wander along the historic riverfront. Experience the warmth and charm of the historic south on this tour as refreshing as a glass of sweet tea.
Day 1 * Sunday * April 1
Welcome aboard as we begin our five-day Southern Journey. Today we travel to historic Charleston and enjoy a four-night stay at the Hampton Inn at Patriots Point, just minutes away from Charleston’s historic district.
Day 2 * Monday * April 2
Charleston is steeped in history and has reigned as one of the country’s most important seaport towns. This morning board a horse drawn carriage for sightseeing along quaint cobblestone streets lined with colorful homes that are surrounded by shaded courtyards and walled gardens. Following a lunchtime stop at the City Market enjoy views of Charleston’s historic forts on our cruise to Fort Sumter where the first shot of the Civil War was fired. Dinner is included this evening. Day 3 * Tuesday * April 3
Journey to charming Savannah, a jewel of the south dating back over 260 years. A sightseeing tour reveals its monuments and museums, antebellum homes and moss laden trees. Enjoy lunch at Paula Deen’s famous restaurant, the Lady and Sons. Visit the restored waterfront filled with shops and boutiques before returning to Charleston for the evening. (CB,L)
Day 4 * Wednesday * April 4
Visit two of the finest plantations and gardens in America. Walk through America’s oldest landscaped gardens at 18th century Middleton Place, the grandest of the Ashley River plantations, and a National Historic Landmark. A special luncheon is included for our enjoyment. At Magnolia Plantation and Gardens, considered by many to be the most beautiful garden in the world, see one of the largest collections of azaleas and camellias. Board the nature tram for views of turtles, egrets, herons, and alligators in their natural habitats. Return to our hotel for a restful evening. (CB,L)
Day 5 * Thursday * April 5
